Tyrrell’s Wines Vat 1 Hunter Semillon 2013 Review
Tis a brave soul who gives up a comfortable life, one where you know your town, have a routine, friends nearby, a solid job, family and favourite restaurants, shops and recreation.
It’s been a few years since Mr Wino and I made that trip, and to our delight, we now welcome friends of ours from Sydney who are re-settling to McLaren Vale. With them come their two Dachshunds – Frank and Furta! A taste of home is always welcome, and with our friends came some Hunter classics.

Well Looky Here
Clear, bright and a colour of palest straw.
Sniff Sniff
Paw paw leaps out – the lemon/lime of a young semillon has fallen away a bit
Slightest Hints of aged secondary characters are peeking around the edges.
Sip Sip
Similar on the palate to the nose.
There’s a struck match character.
It’s in a bit of a hole between young – lemony – seafood friendly semm, and the matured marmalade on toast mature semm character. Overall the effect is a tweak watery, as it is still waiting for the mature fattness to kick in.
Good acidity, fairly long flavour, but will get longer.
A little lost just now.
Don’t drink it for a few years yet.

You can buy the 2011 for $80 from Tyrell’s Wine
Nom Nom
Udder Delight’s 6 yr old, aged orange Lancaster look Dutch gouda fills out the palate of this Sem.
Rating
Value – fair.
Sub bronze – bbq worthy.
