Helen’s Hill Yarra Valley Cabernets 2006 Wine Tasting Review

Helen’s Hill Yarra Valley Cabernets 2006 Wine Tasting Review

Even in summer, there are sometimes cool spells.  We’re lucky, our 1850’s built, solid stone house keep remarkably cool, and can withstand 45 degree temperatures for three days before it starts to warm up. No air con, either, just ceiling fans.

Brief periods of respite from the relentless heat are the opportunity we need to tuck into some red wine!

Not every one we pull from the cellar is a winner though.

Well Looky Here

Purple black with the barest more light at the edge.

Sniff Sniff

Rich black plums, a touch of classic aged cab sauv capsicum. Milk chocolate. Nose tickling baking spices.

Sip Sip

Lighter on the palate than I expected. Black cherry juicy acid. Tannins have completely loosened their grip, and the acid is now prominent, and a little sour.

Sadly, I think we have left this bottle until it was past it’s prime.

Nom Nom

Drink with hearty food, like a Mexican pot pie with lashings of guacamole and sour cream.

Gimmie Gimmie

Was $35/bottle – now sold out.

14.5% alcohol.

Rating

Value – fair.

Sub-bronze – past its’ prime.
