St Hallett Dawkins Eden Valley Shiraz 2010

Planning a holiday is no mean feat.

First comes research – on places, wineries, restaurants and places to stay.  Next is plotting them all into Google Maps to see if visiting them in the time available is even feasible. Then it’s time to make contact with them and try to lock in an itinerary.

The part I always forget? Adding in time to relax. To wander. To get off our feet and just soak up the surroundings. OOps. Perhaps this time!

Piedmont is of course so beautiful, and some time to gaze at the snow covered alps while indulging in some Barolo or Barbaresco sounds mighty enticing.

These tasks and daydreams are best done with a glass in hand.

Well Looky Here

Purple black with a ruby, almost brick red rim.

Sniff Sniff

Spiced blackcurrants, shy blueberry, and sappy twigs, freshly snapped.

Rich, big and savoury but with a touch of dusty rose petals and just a pinch of dried mint.

It’s surprisingly fresh and light on its’ feet.

Sip Sip

Lighter than the nose suggests , though still medium bodied.

Savoury and tart, like unripe plums, and sour cherries.

Secondary flavours of bitter dark chocolate.
