It’s not everyday I take an international business class flight.
In fact, when I take off from Melbourne in exactly one week’s time, it will be the first time ever that I have been in Business Class!
When I do, it will be with Qantas, and it just so happens that Qantas have recently launched a new service for international Business Class flights called “Select on Q Eat”.
This service allows you to select from three distinct choices:
- you can select the meal you want to eat on the flight online between one week and 24 hours before you go which includes an exclusive online only meal option, and suggests a matching wine varietal for each meal;
- you can select a no meal option, so you can maximise beauty sleep on board,
- the final option is to order as per usual once on board.
To help you make the most of this groovy new service, I’ve put together this handy dandy guide on how to use “Select on Q Eat”.
Step 1: Manage Your Booking
First step is to navigate either to the Qantas Manage Your Booking page, entering your reference number, or by logging into Qantas Frequent Flyer and selecting Manage Your Booking for the flight you want to select meals for first.
This will take you to the Manage Your Booking page for your specific international business class flight.
Remember, you can’t access the Select on Q feature until between 7 days and 24 hours before your flight.
Step 2: Find the Select on Q Feature
From the Manage Your Booking page, look for the “Flight” section of the page by either scrolling down, or clicking on the Flight option on the left hand menu.
Click on the box named “Select your inflight meal” to access the Select on Q feature.
Step 3: Make Your Foodie Selections
Select your flight from the drop down menu and press submit.
Now you can choose the meal options for each traveller linked to that booking reference.
To review the meal options for your flight, click the button next to “Select Now – pre order your meal”.
My flight (QF29 Melbourne to Hong Kong) includes a lunch service, and you can select a maximum of two plates. Any combination of starters (called a small plate) and main dishes (called a main plate), with one option being an online exclusive.
Vegetarian options are clearly indicated with a [v] – and lucky for me there are three vegetarian small plates, and one vegetarian main.
One of the vegetarian options on my flight is a fancy pumpkin and ginger soup with corriander, which is a small plate, with a recommended wine match of a riesling.

Another vegetarian small plate option on my flight is the grilled zucchini, farro, mint, pine nut and feta salad, with a recommended wine match of Cabernet Sauvignon, which strikes me as a bit of a surprising match, but I am willing to give it a try.

The vegetarian main plate option on my flight is ricotta mushrooms with polenta chips and tomato ragu. The recommended wine match is a chardonnay.
There is also a cheese plate which isn’t marked as vegetarian, so may be animal rennet cheese. The wine match is a choice of stickies, muscat or tokay.
The online exclusive meal is a roasted quail salad for our flight.
I hope this little tutorial will help you get the most out of your upcoming Qantas International Business Flight!
Stay tuned for my review of the flight and meal. In the same trip, I will also be flying:
- International Business Cathay Pacific Hong Kong to Rome
- International Business Qatar Istanbul to Doha
- International Business Qatar Doha to Dubai
- International Business Emirates Dubai to Adelaide
All of which will also be reviewed on the blog!

How cool! I’d love to fly business class but I think I may be dreaming! I must say that Qantas really is kicking butt with their check in systems though. SO much better!!! The other day I flew with a different airline and waited for over 40 minutes just to bag drop!!!! Thanks for linking up with our Fabulous Foodie Fridays party! xx
Yeowch 40 minutes!! Love the Qantas automated bag drop, it’s so quick.
I will definitely review my experience of travelling business class, I’m so excited, 2 more sleeps!
P.S I bought my wedding dress today, what an amazing time in my life right now!
