Organic Shiraz Challenge: Battle of Bosworth, Broombee, La Beille

I have many theories.

They’re all rather strongly held.

One of them is, that to learn about wine, it helps to open more than one bottle at a time. This gives you the opportunity to compare & contrast. To hone in on what you like and don’t like.

My mum in Sydney went to an in-store wine tasting and met the winemaker of French Cotes Catalanes label La Beille. Even though mum doesn’t drink much, she went home with a six pack, which were promptly dispatched to Willunga. Worry not mum, we will give them a very good home.

This inspired us to do a bit of an organic shiraz tasting to compare and contrast the different regions takes on the variety.

Organic Shiraz Challenge – French, Mudgee, McLaren Vale

This isn’t a competition, they’re all different vintages, it is more about trying different expressions of the same grape variety, each farmed without the use of chemicals or pesticides.

Organic Shiraz #1: Broombee Mudgee Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Mr Wino had a bottle of Broombee Shiraz Cab from one of our trips to Mudgee, NSW that was due to be opened. 2005 vintage. I can remember chatting with the owner winemaker, Barrie Corner, and I bought a cute cat cushion embroidered by his wife which adorns our lounge room.

Opening it was like opening a window to our memories.
