ess & see No. 1 Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2012 Wine Tasting Review – May 2015

Cheese and wine.

Wine and cheese.

After work, it’s my little treat to share with Mr Wino.

Tonight it was a workplace duo. Mr Wino’s workplace that is.

Wine from McLaren Vale Winemakers and sheeps milk brie from Kangarilla Creamery, which has set up a factory onsite at McLaren Vale Winemakers.

Lucky for us, Mr Wino works for McLaren Vale Winemakers, so the wine and the cheese was a perk of the job.

Berries for this wine were grown on Bill Hardy’s Adelaide Hills property. Handpicked, crushed, fermented and then had a sleep in a mix of new French and older neutral oak.

Typically, the cool climate of the Adelaide Hills results in characteristics like:

  • natural acidity
  • elegant savouriness.

Well, Looky Here

Nice ruby colour especially on the edges.

Sniff Sniff.

Dark, black fruit and a good whack of dried herbs and spice. Some nice florals too, violets.

Sip sip.

Smooth crisp and juicy finish, the floral hint carries through, nice fruit sweetness.

Accentuates the mushroomy aftertaste of the cheese we taste it with, which conversely brings out the red fruit in the wine.
